“STINGRAY”
SR-3 TEST INSTALLATION ON OCTOBER 23, 1998

PLACE: Foresight Products East Test Site
SOIL:
Silty Compact Sand
DEPTH:
SR-3 installed to 12 feet with 1 1/2” anchor rod attached to SR-3
LOAD:
42 Tons (84,000 lbs.)

INSTALLATION TIME:
1. 10 minutes to drive
2. 10 minutes to Proof Test to 42 tons
3. Total=20 minutes

INSTALLATION EQUIPMENT:
1. Case 580 Super L backhoe loader with “extendahoe” features
2. Stanley HS6000 vibratory (mounted) plate compactor equipped with SG175, a vibro socket and grab hook.
3. Foresight Products SR-LLK anchor locking kit
4. Foresight Products SG175-3-96 radiused drive steel tip, SG-175-4 coupler, SG175-2-96 drive steel extension and SG175 cap adapter.

INSTALLATION SUMMARY:
The purpose of this installation was to test the SR-3 STINGRAY with 375 square inches of surface bearing area. This test complemented the previous SR-1 STINGRAY test, which has 115 square inches of surface bearing area. The SR-3 was designed for looser/softer soils, and the SR-1 for harder soils.

THE OBJECTIVES WERE:
1. Prove installation method with a vibratory plate compactor
2. Reach a minimum of 50-60,000 lbs. capacity
3. After installing, dig the anchor out to expose and visually verify the proper function of the anchor underground - rotating, tipping perpendicular to the anchor rod when activated by the SR-LLk anchor locker.
4. Inspect and verify the structural integrity of the SR-3 STINGRAY after it endured the forces placed upon it during installation and anchor locking.

TEST RESULTS
All criteria was successfully achieved:
1. Vibratory installation method very effective:
  • Drive times were less than 5 minutes per 8 foot section
  • Total drive time less than 10 minutes, which included addition of coupler and second extension

2. Capacity objectives to reach 50-60,000 lbs. were exceeded as the anchor was proof tested to 42 tons.
3. Anchor was excavated and exposed as follows:

  • SR-3 tipped/rotated underground to perpendicular position to anchor rod
  • Inspection of the SR-3 after removal verified no damage/loss of structural function during installation and anchor locking. The SR-3 can be installed again with the same predictable results.

ALL OBJECTIVES WERE MET!
